Although AliExpress is one of the most popular e-commerce platforms in the world.Similar to eBay, AliExpress is an online retailer service owned by the Alibaba Group where small business owners and individuals can sell their products.

These AliExpress sellers offer a wide range of Chinese products at very competitive prices and, in most cases, with free shipping (or nearly free).

The Chinese site was launched almost ten years ago and is now one of the most popular e-commerce platforms (especially in Russia, Brazil, and some parts of Europe), generating millions of transactions each year.

Curiously, people from mainland China can’t buy products from this platform. Even though most sellers are Chinese, AliExpress focuses on international consumers – Chinese buyers should use Taobao, another similar e-commerce website.

No matter what platform you use, buying online from third-party sellers has some risks associated, especially if these sellers are on the other side of the globe and don’t speak your language. Online scams are widespread, and you need to know how to be safe.

Here are five tips that will help you avoid online fraud!

1. Always Buy From Trusted Sellers

You are probably already familiar with the Amazon seller rating system. It is a very simple tool that functions as a good indicator of whether you are likely to have any problems during the buying process or not.

AliExpress has a similar system that allows buyers to find reputable sellers. To do so, buyers only have to enter the feedback page and analyze the seller’s history.

If the seller has thousands of positive reviews and an excellent rating (above 95%), then it is safe to say that they are not in the internet scam business.

However, keep in mind that problems may still occur. We also discourage buying products from newly created stores: less than six months. Or even more, depending on the amount of the product you are buying.

2. Check Product Reviews

Online reviews posted by other consumers are another useful tool to understand if the product you are buying is what you are expecting. As you know, products always look great on the photos that sellers use to advertise them. But more often than not, they are slightly (or considerably) different, especially in AliExpress.
